Vietnam win five golds in Asian chess championship

Five young masters from Vietnam grabbed gold medals in the blitz chess event at the ongoing Eastern Asian Youth Chess Championships underway in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Nguyen Thai Minh Hieu, Pham Tran Gia Phuc, Tran Dang Minh Quang, Vuong Quynh Anh and Nguyen Hong Anh won the golds.

Seven other players brought home silver medals.

The championship has drawn the participation of 584 players from 12 countries and territories, including China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia and the UK. 

Players between six and 18 years of age compete in three categories: blitz chess, standard chess and rapid chess.

The tournament will end on June 26.
